Family Law

We are one of the few Vermont firms that concentrates in all areas of divorce and family law including: divorce, civil union dissolution, parentage, custody, property disputes, child support and modification/enforcement in the Vermont Family Courts and before the Vermont Child Support Magistrates. We also represent family members in juvenile proceedings including delinquency, child abuse and child neglect cases. Our family law work over the years has produced a number of Vermont Supreme Court decisions concerning alimony, property division, real estate and pension valuations. We recognize that divorce is highly stressful, and we strive to provide support and timely resolution for our clients and their families.

Criminal Defense

Our firm offers innovative defenses to persons charged with misdemeanor and felony crimes in the Federal and State Courts. Our representation runs the gamut from DWI and other serious motor vehicle offenses to burglary and other property crimes, assault, drug offenses, homicide, pornography, sexual assault and related crimes and criminal forfeiture proceedings. We also provide counsel in criminal investigations and grand jury proceedings. We pride ourselves on providing a realistic assessment and creative and vigorous defense for all our clients.

This firm represents plaintiffs in personal injury litigation throughout Vermont. We are experienced in assisting injured parties through the insurance morass arising from automobile accidents, work-place injuries caused by persons other than the employer (known as third-party claims) and premises liability ("slip and fall") cases. We can attempt to obtain a fair settlement with the liability insurance carrier either directly or through mediation, but if a fair settlement is not forthcoming, we have the experience to effectively litigate your claim. Our work has included landmark Vermont Supreme Court decisions and settlements against the Vermont Department of Social and Rehabilitation Services (SRS), and a jury verdict in excess of $600,000 against a Hyde Park, Vermont man for a civil battery against his estranged wife.
